INVISALIGN® IN CAMBRIDGE, MA & SOMERVILLE, MA

We all want great looking teeth, but for various reasons many people never really feel confident in their smiles. The effects can be damaging socially and psychologically, so why don’t more people seek treatment for crooked smiles, unsightly gaps or crowding? One major reason, it turns out, is a fear of traditional braces.

It’s not hard to see why. Even though the end result is a beautiful smile, traditional wire braces bring their fair share of issues. Irritation, limitations on your diet, regular maintenance and of course, how they look. Thankfully, there is an alternative to traditional braces, called Invisalign® and we, at Avalon Dental Center in Cambridge and Somerville happy to offer it for you!

About Invisalign

Invisalign is like wearing braces, except no metal braces are needed—or seen. This system tosses out the metal wires and brackets and uses clear, medical-grade plastic aligners in their place. These aligners are designed specifically for you, so they fit directly over the teeth, avoiding any gaps that would make them visible to those around you. This means that your treatment will only be between us and you.

How Invisalign Aligners Work

Aligners are made by scanning your teeth with a 3D camera. We then create a virtual 3D model of what your teeth look like now and the result you would like for your new smile. Once we know where we are starting and where we would like to finish, a series of virtual models are printed moving your teeth a fraction of a millimeter, a tenth of a degree eventually creating your one-of-a-kind Lemchen-Salzer smile.

Living with Invisalign® clear aligners

  • Stay active in all the sports and activities you love.

  • Keep brushing and flossing just as you normally do, with no brackets or wires to get in the way.

Wearing your aligners

  • You'll be ready for anything, from movie night to coffee with friends. Just take your aligners out to eat and drink, then brush your teeth before putting them back in.

  • Wear your Invisalign clear aligners 20 to 22 hours a day for best results.

  • Parents, your teen's aligners will have blue compliance indicators to assure you they’re wearing them enough.

Getting new sets of aligners

  • You'll wear each set of aligners for one to two weeks, as prescribed by one of our doctors.

  • You’ll schedule check-ups every six to eight weeks to check your progress and pick up the next batch of aligners. Fewer doctor visits mean more time to enjoy life.

  • When you start wearing each new set of aligners, you may feel a little extra pressure or discomfort for the first few days, which is totally normal.

Cleaning your aligners

  • Rinse your aligners every night and brush them gently with your toothbrush to keep them fresh and clean.

  • Use the Invisalign cleaning system to keep your aligners clear.
