Gum Disease Awareness

Your gums are the foundation for your teeth, so keeping your gums healthy through good oral hygiene habits will help keep your teeth healthy, too. Did you know that there are more than 3 million cases of gum disease per year in the US? Two recent studies show that gum disease was associated with a higher rate of strokes caused by the hardening of large arteries in the brain and severe artery blockages that haven’t yet caused symptoms. Fortunately, you can help stop gum disease in its tracks by taking care of your oral hygiene. Regular hygiene maintenance supports oral health and can help prevent gum disease from forming.

Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that hold your teeth in place. It can be caused by poor brushing and flossing habits that allow plaque - a sticky film of bacteria - to build upon the teeth and harden. Without treatment, it can damage the bone that supports your teeth and even cause teeth to loosen and fall out. Gum disease can often lead to gum recession, which exposes teeth roots to decay. Early detection is critical, and we are here for you!
